• Augmented Reality Mode
iPFD supports an augmented reality mode utilizing the rear-facing camera to show live video overlaid with the attitude and heading display. Use it to sight headings to objects in the distance or measure angles to objects above ground level. Best of all, have fun using iPFD while pretending to be a fighter pilot!
• Heading Bug
iPFD has a heading bug (an adjustable visual marker) with digital readout just like a real aircraft. Best of all, you can drag the bug around the compass rose with your finger.
• Limitations
iPFD utilizes aerospace-grade algorithms to provide a high quality AHRS (attitude and heading reference system). However, due to limitations in the accuracy of the iPhone 4 inertial and magnetic sensors, the attitude and heading estimate is subject to error and cannot be used for primary navigation of aircraft.
iPFD is NOT APPROVED for use as primary or backup navigation in aircraft by the FAA.
Only devices with angular rate sensors (gyros), like the iPhone 4, provide full functionality. In devices without angular rate sensors, iPFD will still display attitude information, but this information becomes inaccurate in the presence of accelerations (for example, in a banked turn, the displayed attitude will be incorrect). It will only display correct attitude when the device is not in motion.
